The above mentioned plant began to operate in October, 2005, although the investments to extend its productive capacity and to improve the safety and efficiency of the productive process are still being carried out.
In the first trimester of 2007, and after analyzing the perspectives of the demand of silicon wafers for the photovoltaic industry, it was decided to start the construction of a new plant of production, independent from the existing one and with a major capacity. To that end, diverse locations were analyzed and finally in June, 2007, the Management of the company decided to bet once again for Puertollano and began the construction of the factory in this town.
In this way, on the 28th of January, 2008, the Town hall awarded to Silicio Solar SAU, an adjacent plot which had enough territory (71.987 m2) to construct the new production plant.
The new factory of Silicio Solar SAU, which is being started at present, needs an estimated investment of 197 million euros and forecasts the creation of 400 direct working places.
Since 2008 Silicio Solar SAU, is part of the Dutch Enterprise Corporation Pillar Group, B.V., leader of the photovoltaic industry.
Silicio Solar develops the fabrication of the new types of the product. In 2009 the production of full-square monocrystalline wafers and wafers of N-type began.
The first factory started in 2005 with an installed capacity of 110 MWS and more than 300 MWS was extended during 2010. In 2011 it is planned to achieve the capacity of 360 MWS.
In the period of 2008-2011 in Silicio Solar 463 of the new working places have been created. In 2011 around 1000 people are working in the whole company.
